Challenge: Growth of business with major food retailer triggered significant increase in Eastern European labour – immigrant workforce largely high calibre but some resentful of indigenous staff leading to breakdowns in communication and quality issues.
Input: How clearly had the change programme been presented to date? What was the message coming from directors? What were the root causes blocking cultural assimilation?
Outcome: Lower staff turnover, 200% gross profit uplift over one year.
Comments: I was already sold on the development value of coaching but was not expecting the measurable results that followed.
Challenge: Major change in strategy in response to market conditions. The need to offload small low-margin customers, develop more higher-value business and cut costs. Market changes requiring a shift to a partnership approach. Lack of in-house capacity, and little availability in the external labour market.
Input: What were the strengths and aspirations of the team? Where were there opportunities to develop talent? What could senior leaders do to free up time to work more strategically?
Outcome: Acquisition of five major new key accounts, reduction in the cost of sales by 22%
Comments: It wasn’t until we really looked at our talent pool and assessed how we as Directors were inadvertently blocking development that we began to build capacity and enable the growth we were seeking.
Challenge: Competent but fragmented team split over 2 sites with inherent inefficiencies. Managing Partner enthused by possibilities of purchase of new site and improved patient care. Some of the team resistant to change.
Input: Analysis of desired outcomes and potential roadblocks, identification of behavioural preferences and how to capitalise on them, development of delegation skills, succession planning.
Outcome: Creation of single cohesive award winning practice, simultaneously increasing turnover by 18% over one year.
Comments: Your coaching has given me the courage to let go. My staff now get on with what they should have been doing for a long time, and I in turn have been able to see the bigger picture and take patient care to the next level.
"I’m not great at traditional courses so I thought I’d give the coaching a go. Its value is in the way it focuses on issues that are relevant to you. You make real changes quickly."
Managing Director, Software Development Company
"It’s been great to clarify our purpose, values and vision. It means that our team can now work with a common sense of purpose and push our dental practice forward."

"Once used to bolster troubled staffers, coaching now is part of the standard leadership development training for elite executives and talented up-and-comers at IBM, Motorola, J.P. Morgan, Chase, and Hewlett Packard. These companies are discreetly giving their best prospects what star athletes have long had: a trusted adviser to help reach their goals." CNN.com
